70′s Gold

This is the decade where my record/music collection took off. I was 13 at the start and 23 at the end and boy did my musical tastes go though some changes.

In 1971 I bought my first real single – Double Barrel by Dave and Ansel Collins.

Double Barrel was featured on the third of the REGGAE CHARTBUSTERS series of compilations. I obtained the first volume off a mate (Big Steve) which he has regretted ever since purely because it was at the time the ultimate in reggae compilations. Many of the tracks on it were covered by UB40 on thier first LABOUR OF LOVE albums.

This was quickly followed by one of the greatest songs of all time – Rod Stewart’s Maggie May.

The 70′s was also a time when I first got into heavy rock – by coincidence the album I’m currently listening to is Rush’s live album All The World’s A Stage. If you want to try out some RUSH I reccomend you have a lsiten to this.
